Register for Summer Camp

Kids ages 7-12 years old are invited to register for The Salvation Army’s one-week Summer Camp experience at Camp Rapahannock. For a flat fee of $25.00, children can see and experience the great outdoors. Summer camp will take place from July 3rd through July 8th, 2023. Before registering for camp, make sure your child has all health documents in place.

Many children from low-income families rarely experience life outside their immediate neighborhood. That’s why The Salvation Army’s annual Summer Camp experience is so important.

Every year, thousands of kids of all ages get a fresh perspective on life as they meet new friends, discover new activities, and get a taste of the great outdoors. As campers learn to swim, play sports, create music, make art, and gain independence, our trained counselors help them navigate complicated emotions and struggles often associated with their lives back home.

Camp Rappahannock is located about 70 miles south of Washington, D.C. in Richardsville, Virginia (Culpeper County), Rappahannock Camp & Retreat Center (formerly Camp Happyland), is a summer destination for youth from communities that The Salvation Army serves in the Washington, D.C. metro area, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Children learn about their faith through an enjoyable outdoor camping experience.

The Salvation Army Summer Camps for Kids Help Families Thrive Through:

Structure: Busy kids are happy kids. Our Summer camp sessions provide a structured and positive environment, keeping kids active and safe while at the same time giving them the opportunity to learn about building relationships with other kids and the world around them. Camp sessions are programmed with activities for kids that engage and inform.

The Restorative Power of Nature: Poets and artists have long recognized the restorative effect nature can have on us, and science has turned theory into fact.  Research shows that simply having a view of nature can improve a student’s test scores, reduce aggressive behavior, and even speed physical healing. Kids at our summer camps benefit daily from the fresh air, exercise, and new friendships they form.

New Skills and Self Reliance: The Salvation Army summer camp experience is more than just a pleasant vacation. Our counselors are trained to recognize your child’s emotional needs and problems and to help them to mature. Camp activities include swimming lessons, adventure and scouting camps, arts and crafts, music development, and sports.

Serving all Without Discrimination: In providing its after-school and summer camp programs and services to families, The Salvation Army is committed to accommodating all those in need without unlawful discrimination or harassment based on age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, disability, citizenship, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other characteristic in accordance with our capacity to help.
