Our promise of Doing the Most Good include helping our supporters meet their financial and charitable goals. The Salvation Army offers opportunities to help change lives while you:

  • Receive fixed payments to you for life at rates of up to 8.6% annually based on your age.
  • Realize income tax savings, reduce or defer capital gains on appreciated assets, and lower potential gift and estate tax.
  • Help individuals and families in their greatest time of need.

Be Proactive

Planning is the most important step you can take to maximize benefits from your assets. As you consider what you would like to achieve, think about what you already have.

  • List your current and future income sources
  • Compare the income and tax liability of your current investments with alternatives, including charitable arrangements that can help you defer or reduce capital gains liability and increase your income.
  • Complete a planning checklist that itemizes your assets and liabilities.

If you need help defining your goals, or would like to receive a simple planning checklist, please contact Ted Simon.

Consider Your Goals

Your life and experiences are unique, and your plan should be too. Check the benefits that interest you most:

  • Increasing your Income
  • Receiving fixed payments for life
  • Creating additional financial security for yourself, a relative, or other loved on.
  • Decreasing your income tax liability
  • Deferring or reducing capital gains on appreciated assets
  • Diversifying your assets and protecting them from fluctuations in the economy
  • Eliminating potential estate tax

Think Long-Term

When planning for the future, your will may be the most important document you ever create. Having a current, valid will is essential to insuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes. A properly written will can also help avoid unnecessary costs and taxes, make the most of your assets, and conserve the value of your assets for loved ones.

Practice Good Stewardship

Including charity as a beneficiary in your will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, or other plans is a meaningful way to share your assets and make a clear and lasting statement of your values to future generations. Consult your own advisors, or contact us for more information on available options or bequest language.

The Salvation Army Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

Give and Receive

One of the most popular ways to receive income for life and tax benefits while you help others is through a gift arrangement called The Salvation Army Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA)

How does it work?

  1. You transfer cash or appreciated assets, such as stock or real estate to The Salvation Army.
  2. In return, The Salvation Army pays you, or someone you choose, a fixed income for life at rates of up to 8.6%.
  3. Your payments are based on your age at the time your CGA is established and will never change.
  4. A portion of your income is tax-free, and you can reduce and defer capital gains if you fund the CGA with an appreciated asset.
  5. Best of all, the remainder of your gift will help us continue our mission of Doing the Most Good.
