Salvation Army Central Maryland plans to move headquarters to Sandtown-Winchester

September 16, 2023 - A vacant school building in Sandtown-Winchester is getting a new purpose. The former William Pinderhughes Elementary School building, which has been empty for over 10 years and was most recently used as a homeless shelter, is expected to become the new headquarters for the Salvation Army Central Maryland Area Command.

Friday marks National Donut Day, so the Salvation Army delivered treats to Baltimore police officers as a way of saying thank you for their service. Toyota Shifts Auto Show Focus Donates Winter Boots and Socks to Families In Need

As Toyota showcased some of its great cars and trucks at the Maryland Auto Show on Jan. 29, it also turned its focus to support the community, according to a press release.

Toyota stepped in to help shield Baltimore families in need from the snow and cold through its “Walk In My Boots” community outreach program. 'It's life or death': Volunteers making a difference for the homeless during Code Blue

BALTIMORE — Another Code Blue weekend in Baltimore City means volunteers are out on the roads checking on the city's homeless population.

"We can't let them become a statistic," said homeless advocate Christina Flowers. "It's life or death when we're talking this kind of weather."

Flowers was on deck outside St. Vincent De Paul Church Friday handing out food and blankets to those in need.

BALTIMORE — On Wednesday, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa declared a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert from Thursday evening to Saturday morning, when temperatures will feel like the single digits with the wind chill.

“I encourage residents to stay indoors, especially those most vulnerable to cold,” said Dzirasa. “Extreme low temperatures can be life-threatening especially for our most vulnerable populations.
