Commodity Supplemental Food Program

We are dedicated to serving the community and providing essential resources to those in need. Our Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is a collaborative effort with Meals on Wheels, the USDA, and the Department of Aging to combat food insecurity in Central Maryland.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program is a federally funded initiative designed to improve the health and nutrition of low-income families and individuals, specifically targeting seniors aged 60 and above. Through this program, eligible participants receive a monthly package of nutritious foods, including grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, and dairy products.

The CSFP plays a crucial role in supporting low-income families by providing them with regular access to nutritious food. This program helps alleviate food insecurity, ensuring that individuals and families have access to balanced meals and necessary nutrients. By receiving essential food items, families can stretch their limited budgets and direct their financial resources towards other essential needs such as housing, healthcare, and education.

In 2022, The Salvation Army provided 24,000 grocery boxes that provided 504,000 meals to more than 2,000 seniors in Baltimore City and in Baltimore County. Our CSFP program has a bustling volunteer program that provides leadership experience and community service hours for students, older adults, non-profits, churches, and corporations who are committed to Love Beyond. CSFP had 763 (duplicated) volunteers that served 2,289 community service hours this year.

Volunteer Opportunities

We rely on dedicated volunteers to help us make a difference in the lives of those we serve. If you are interested in volunteering for our Commodity Supplemental Food Program or any other initiatives please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Samantha Bowman, at [email protected].

Are you over the age of 65 and in need of food?

We recognize the unique needs of seniors above the age of 65 and strive to provide them with the necessary support. If you or someone you know is a senior in need of assistance, you can contact Meals on Wheels directly at 410-558-0932 to be added to the CSFP program and to have meals delivered to your home.
