The Salvation Army of Central Maryland's Christmas Red Run and Red Kettle Kick-off
Baltimore, MD, September 18, 2023 — The Salvation Army of Central Maryland invites the entire Baltimore community to join us for a festive and heartwarming Christmas Red Kettle Kick-off and Fun Run event on November 4, 2023 at the iconic Camden Yards Sports Complex. This year's kick-off promises to be a memorable occasion, featuring a spirited 5k run or walk and a record-breaking attempt at the world’s largest human shield. Former Baltimore Raven linebacker, Jameel McClain will be the Honorary Chairman and will host the festivities.
As the holiday season approaches, The Salvation Army of Central Maryland is determined to rally the community to support its critical fundraising efforts. Last year, The Salvation Army fell short of its Christmas fundraising goals, which had a significant impact on the organization's ability to provide essential social services to those in need.
“The Salvation Army of Central Maryland has always relied on the generosity and compassion of our community to do the most good for the communities we serve. This year, however, we must candidly acknowledge that we fell short of our Christmas goals last year,” said Area Commander Major Roger Glick. “The challenges we faced were unprecedented, with the ongoing global circumstances posing unique hurdles. But let me be clear: we are not disheartened; we are more determined than ever. As we gear up for our Christmas Kettle Kick-Off, we are rallying on the Baltimore community to make this year a success.”

9:00 am – 11:00 am Record-Breaking Attempt at Largest Human Shield
Location: 101 W Lee Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. (This course wraps around Oriole Park at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadiums and ends on Ravens Walk between Lot B and C.)

About the Camden Yards Sports Complex:
Located in the heart of Baltimore City. The complex includes Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home of Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles and M&T Bank Stadium, the home of the National Football Leagues Baltimore Ravens. There are more than one hundred non-profit events held one the property each year. In 2020 using Lot C, The Salvation Army of Central Maryland along with its for-profit partners distributed nearly one million meals to Baltimore City senior citizens during the COVID-19 crisis.
