THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB MAKE “THANK-YOU” CARDS FOR BALTIMORE SOUTHWEST POLICE DIVISION

Jul 18, 2022

Despite of spate of homicides, arrests, and unruly crimes occurring in the underbelly of Southwest Baltimore— The Baltimore Southwest Police Division is risking their lives to help their community. The Boys and Girls Club of Franklin Square which is located near the Southwest Police Division, are learning penmanship and gratitude from Lt. Schelika Chisolm and from Captain Michael Chisolm.

The Boys and Girls club members rallied together and wanted to say “Thank You” in an earnest way to our daily heroes, so they created cards and wrote out a detailed “Thank You” in crayon to each officer who serves that division. The kids spent a day outside coloring balloons and drawing police related images, and personalized each card to every cadet, officer, sergeant, and lieutenant who serves Southwest Division.

The Salvation Army’s Development Department hand delivered each card and was surprised but the emotional reactions to each card. Officers faces slightly crumbled with tears and gratitude for the kind gesture.

“Thank you for another reason to come to work” said Officer Sobboh. After coming in from a hard case, his face lit up while reading his card. “This card made my heart happy and smiley. Thank you, Boys and Girls club, for thinking of us and the community.”

Sargeant Walp really appreciated the nice words in crayon. “It was nice to get appreciation. The words in crayon mean more than you know. We risk our lives for every kid,” she said.

“No good work goes unnoticed” said Sargeant Heyward, who handles community relations for Southwest Baltimore Police Division. “This card shows that people appreciate police and police work. The connection between police and children is very important. Thank you so much for the card!” said Sgt. Heyward.

The Baltimore Southwest Division and The Boys and Girls Club of Franklin Square look forward to a growing relationship soon where kids get to play basketball, have police parties, and play board games with Baltimore police.
