PATHWAY OF HOPE: SHERRY WIGGINS

Mar 10, 2023

“If you do what you need to do in Pathway of Hope, the program is going to do what they promise to do for you,” said Sherry Wiggins, Baltimore resident.

Five years ago, Sherry Wiggins, mother of 5 children, was in an abusive domestic relationship. In this relationship, she was unemployed, dependent on her partner and didn’t have a dollar to her name. Wiggins escaped the relationship,  and found an agency that helped women and children escape domestic violence. From there she was linked to The Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope program, which intervened like a guiding hand.

“Every time I felt like giving up, my case manager, Mr. Dean, kept me on track with my weekly goal setting,” said Wiggins. “Taking the bus was a hassle but I had to hold myself accountable to make every meeting on time, and with accomplishing my weekly goals.”

And it was those goals set with Pathway of Hope that helped Wiggins own multiple properties, own her own home, and become an employee of the state of Maryland.

“If you saw me in 2019, you never would’ve seen me smile,” said Wiggins. “Today, my children are with a different set of behaviors, and they thank me daily for their new life.”
