ON THE COLDEST WEEKEND OF 2023, FEEDMORE MOBILE CANTEEN DISTRIBUTED COATS FROM ‘BUNDLE UP BALTIMORE’ TO OVER 100 STREET HOMELESS IN EAST BALTIMORE
Baltimore, Maryland- On Saturday February 4th, 2023, The Salvation Army of Central Maryland’s FeedMore mobile canteen provided coats, blankets, hygiene products, and warm meals to Street homeless in East Baltimore at the corner of Fayette Street & Fallsway Road.
Coat, blanket, and meal distribution will start promptly at 1 p.m due to the inclement weather and high demand for protective winter wear. FeedMore mobile canteen, spearheaded by Luther James for the past 25 years, provides warm meals to East Baltimore Street homeless 6 nights a week.
During the coldest nights of the year, and especially during Code Blue weather, FeedMore will be first on the scene to distribute lifesaving coats, warm meals, drinks, and hygiene kids to street homeless. FeedMore is our emergency canteen program that ensures impoverished men, women, and children are given toiletries, coats, and a warm meal, six nights a week. Overall, the Feedmore program serves around 250 individuals each night.
What most people don’t realize is that street homeless are most susceptible to hypothermia, frostbite and even death during single digit weather. While those who are fortunate can stave off frigid cold by staying at home, a coat always serves as the only home a homeless person has at the time. The Salvation Army of Central Maryland ramped up efforts by distributing ‘Bundle up Baltimore’ coats collected at the January coat drives to people-in-need as a life-saving effort.
Whenever Baltimore City braces for Code blue weather, The Salvation Army’s FeedMore mobile canteen emerges as a lifesaving stop for warm food, blankets, and blankets.
“When disaster strikes, The Salvation Army is the first one on the call,” said Area Commander, Major Roger Glick. “We’re preparing our FeedMore emergency canteen with needed accessories that can save a homeless person’s life. Cold, frigid weather without proper winter wear can cause hypothermia, frostbite or even death. We want to protect and nourish as many lives as possible.”
