MAJORS KELLY AND ANGELA ENGLISH (HAVRE DE GRACE CORPS) AND LT. ANTIONO WILLIS (HAMPDEN CORP) DEPART TO NEW ASSIGNMENTS IN MARYLAND AND IN VIRGINIA

June 2022 was a month of meaningful farewells that impacted our Corps officers and staff at The Salvation Army of Central Maryland. Three of our beloved corps officers transitioned into different assignments, and have left a trail of memories, good deeds, and righteousness across Central Maryland. Majors Kelly and Angela English, who have served Havre De Grace Corps by the illustrious waterfront for several years, are assigned to provide ministry over Frederick Corps in Maryland. Lt. Antiono Willis, who has served Hampden Corps by the hustle and bustle of Baltimore City, is assigned to Hampton Corps in Virginia.

How long Salvation Army officers spend at any community depends on that community's needs. Over the years, Majors Kelly and Angel English served the Havre De Grace community by providing in-person and online ministry, by providing an open pantry and cooling spot for the hungry and homeless, by providing toys for Christmas time, and by holding multiple community events that brought people closers to God. Lt. Antiono Willis served the Hampden community by providing a strong presence in Baltimore city at social service events, by providing transportation needs to seniors who need to visit doctors, by providing pantry needs to the hungry, and by helping families left destitute by unnatural circumstances.

Our staff at CMAC threw a fond farewell party for our officers and themed it with Dallas Cowboys and Florida Dolphins memorabilia due to the friendly football rivalry between officers. Lunch was handmade by Nina Christian, our Social Services Director and Brass Hat Café Founder, who created delicious pasta, veggie, and meat dishes for over 40-50 staff members.  Area Director of The Boys and Girls club William Boone, Nina Christian, and Havre De Grace Service Manager Christine Dobney, spoke about fond memories and words of gratitude for our departing officers.

“I had a surprise pregnancy later in life and it was the prayers, support and love from Majors English that have helped me during a tough time in my life,” said Christine Dobney in a tear-wrenching speech.

After speeches were made, Majors Roger and DeeAnn Glick, Area Commanders of The Salvation Army of Central Maryland, gifted Majors English and Lt. Willis signs that will always remind them that Central Maryland will be home for them.

“It’s always a difficult time to say goodbye to our officers. Majors English and Lt. Willis will always be a part of our family. Our corps officers truly left an impact in the Havre De Grace community, in Baltimore City, and in the hearts of our staff, volunteers, and corps officers here at Central Maryland. We know that our officers will germinate seeds of growth, salvation, and love to their assigned communities,” said Majors Roger and DeeAnn Glick, Area Commanders of Central Maryland.

We wish our departing officers only the best when they preside over their new assignments in Frederick, Maryland and in Hampton, Virginia.
