MAJOR VALENCIA LEWIS READY TO SERVE HAVRE DE GRACE

The Salvation Army in Havre De Grace  is pleased to welcome new Corps Officers (church leaders), Major Valencia Lewis and family. She will assume their position on July 2022 and have quickly settled into her new surroundings and are looking forward to getting to know the community and continuing the work of The Salvation Army.

Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every three to four years. Major Valencia Lewis is an enthusiastic and dynamic leader that comes to Baltimore from Washington, Dc where for the last several years was responsible for the programs and services of  The Salvation Army in Washington D.C.  Majors Kelly and Angela English, who previously led Havre De Grace Corps for the past 3 years, transferred to Frederick, Maryland to manage Frederick Corps.

Major Lewis comes to Havre de Grace with sixteen years of full-time ministry experiences with her daughter Erykah. She entered seminary training in August 2004 and was commissioned in May 2006. She served 3 years in Daytona Beach Florida Corps as the Assistant Corps Officer and 4 years in the Ocala Florida Corps as the Assistant Corps Officer, 4 years in Dallas Texas as the Associate Officer and 5 years in Washington DC as the Corps Officer, Social Service Ministries Director & Administrator.

In addition to obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Christian Ministries from the Officers Training College, Major Lewis currently hold an Associate’s Degree in Human Services from Naugatuck Valley Community Technical College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master’s Degree in Theology Biblical Studies at Trevecca Nazarene University of Nashville Tennessee.

In addition to her academic studies Major Lewis brings a military background and a lengthy work history to the command; having served in the United States Army as an Administrative Specialist and Chaplains Assistant while stationed in Panama. After serving briefly in the military Major Lewis worked as an advocate for the less fortunate to help provide services to increase their quality of life. She worked with adults challenged with Autism for nine years. She worked for the Salvation Army Center of Hope as a Social Worker providing services with a concentration enfaces rehabilitation for Homeless Women and Children in Charlotte North Carolina for 5 years before answering the call to entire time ministry.

Major Lewis strengths are working with the elderly, homeless, veterans, substance abuse, women groups and small youth groups. She is passionate about teaching and preaching God Word for redemption is available to everyone.

She comes from a large close net family of thirteen siblings, raised in a two-parent household Mr. Edward W. Lewis Sr. (D) and Mrs. Edris A. Lewis in Waterbury Connecticut. Her parents gave them the gift of traveling; they were adamant that the family travel to each state within the United States. That special gift had prepared her for what would come many years later, since moving is a part of our obligations.

Major Lewis is humbled to join the Havre de Grace community and to be of service through ministry and Social Service. The wealth of knowledge and compassion she has for “the who so ever” and or the “least of thee” she is called to serve is an asset.

“It has been exciting to meet the people of Baltimore city and discover the opportunities for ministry here,” said Major Valencia Lewis “I  look forward to meeting the needs of this community and ‘Doing The Most Good’ alongside the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army.”  

Lewis is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the feeding street homeless, providing pantry assistance to families in need, Angel Tree Christmas services, Mens, Women’s and Senior ministries, Emergency Disaster Services, etc.
