CAPTAINS MATHEW AND LAURA TIDMAN READY TO SERVE IN BALTIMORE CITY

Jul 11, 2022

The Salvation Army in Baltimore (Hampden) is pleased to welcome new Corps Officers (church leaders), Captains Mathew and Laura Tidman and family. They will assume their position on July 2022 and have quickly settled into their new surroundings and are looking forward to getting to know the community and continuing the work of The Salvation Army.

Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every three to four years. Captains Mathew and Laura Tidman are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders and come to Baltimore from Roanoke, Virginia, where for the last several years they were responsible for the programs and services of the Roanoke Salvation Army. Lt. Antiono Willis, who previously led Hampden Corps for the past 3 years, transferred to Hampton, Virginia to manage Hampton Corps.

Captains Matthew and Laura Tidman come to Baltimore having recently served as assistant corps officer in Roanoke, Va.  Captains Matthew and Laura both received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Practical Ministries from The Salvation Army’s Evangeline Booth College in Atlanta, Ga. Additionally, Captain Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts from Asbury University in Journalism, and Captain Laura holds a Bachelor of Science from South Western Christian University in Pastoral Ministry.

Captains Matthew and Laura both grew up in The Salvation Army, where their parents served as officers before them. Prior to become ordained ministers with The Salvation Army, both Matthew and Laura worked various jobs for The Salvation Army including Corps Assistant (assistant pastor), Youth Director, and Social Worker. They come to Hampden eager to advance the mission of The Salvation Army: to help the hurting, and bring lost souls to God.

“It has been exciting to meet the people of Baltimore city and discover the opportunities for ministry here,” said Captain Mathew Tidman. “We look forward to meeting the needs of this community and ‘Doing The Most Good’ alongside the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army.”

The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the feeding street homeless, providing pantry assistance to families in need, Angel Tree Christmas services, Mens, Women’s and Senior ministries, Emergency Disaster Services, etc.

“Many people don’t realize that The Salvation Army is a church,” said Captain Laura Tidman “We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 11:00 AM, at The Salvation Army, located at 3401 Roland Avenue, Baltimore, MD here in Hampden. We look forward to meeting you soon!”
