BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB ADVOCACY DAY AT MD. STATE HOUSE
Last week, William Boone, our Executive Director for The Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Clubs, represented The Salvation Army for ‘The Boys and Girl’s Club Advocacy Day’ in Maryland’s State house.
“The warm, sunny, Annapolis weather, matched the environment and the enthusiastic vibes I felt in the Maryland state,” said William Boone.
Boone was not only the sole representative of The Salvation Army of Central Maryland at The state house, but he was able to speak with delegates, and senators about Boys and Girls club programming.
Many of the Boys and Girls club programs, such as with athletics, education, and with courses related to STEM are in major need of funding assistance. Boone was able to flesh out the innerworkings and stellar results that come from The Boys and Girls clubs located in Franklin Square, Middle River, and in Glen Burnie.
“I’m a lifelong Marylander, and this was my first time visiting the state house. I enjoyed watching the bill process, and seeing how votes were cast by the house and the senate,” said Boone.
He also observed that each floor of the house served as a miniature museum paying respect to different counties in Maryland.
“Each floor served as a unique experience to learn more about the state of Maryland. In just one short flight of stairs, I learned more about Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County and Howard County,” said Boone. “Did you know that Howard county used to be a part of Anne Arundel County?”
After watching an invigorating session at the state house, Boone and fellow Boys and Girls club cohorts from Maryland Alliance ended the day with lunch at Hardrock Café.
