The Salvation Army of Central Maryland Participates in Mayor Brandon Scott’s Earth Day Spring Clean Up
Earth Day is a meaningful day to beautify and make greenery pop up in different walkways, alleyways, curbsides, and building in Baltimore City’s neighborhoods. In celebration of Earth Day, Mayor Brandon Scott held his annual Spring Clean Up day on April 22, 2023. The Salvation Army of Central Maryland consisting of Major DeeAnn Glick, Captain Michael Chisolm of Temple Corps, and “The Old Man Crew” (watch this video to learn more about our local superheroes) participated in Mayor Brandon Scott’s Earth Day Spring Clean up by sprucing up the old Pinderhughes Elementary School building located in Sandtown-Winchester.
“It’s important for The Salvation Army to come together to help our neighbors,” said Major DeeAnn Glick. “The Lord gave us trees, flowers, and bountiful land. We’re eager to help Baltimore City residents out with cleaning up litter around Pinderhughes Elementary school, so more families and children can walk around safely.”
Cleaning up your local neighborhood is important because it helps to create a safer, healthier, and more pleasant environment for everyone who lives there. Litter and other types of pollution can harm wildlife, reduce property values, and create a general sense of neglect and apathy in the community. By taking the initiative to clean up your local area, you can help to improve the quality of life for you and your neighbors.
After The Salvation Army removed 30-40 bags full of loose needles, trash, and debris from Pinderhughes Elementary School. Our mobile canteen served water and refreshments to all volunteers.
The Salvation Army joined with various community associations, block leaders, and volunteers to keep Baltimore city beautiful and clean.
Although Earth day is once a year, volunteering for The Salvation Army can be a lifelong experience.
