THE SALVATION ARMY IS “RECOGNIZED” AS PART OF THE ORIOLE’S HEROES’ CORNER
Baltimore, Md- The Orioles will honor The Salvation Army of Central Maryland for Covid-19 Pandemic efforts as part of their Heroes Corner. During an Orioles vs. Houston Astros game on September 22, 2022, Salvationists, volunteers, staff, and staff will be recognized for heroic efforts with delivering and providing over 10,000 meals daily for vulnerable seniors during the pandemic. Two years before, the Salvation Army worked closely with the Orioles, Ravens, Rouge Catering, and Baltimore city to deliver meals to seniors living independently and across 145 senior living facilities and residential housing in Baltimore. During this public health emergency, seniors were able to access no hassle meals such as cold lunches and microwavable dinners.
“Thank you, Orioles, for the recognition with The Salvation Army’s pandemic efforts,” said Major Roger Glick, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Central Maryland. “As a community, we believe strongly in the positive of Baltimore, that despite a pandemic, we can pool our resources to provide hope and support to our most vulnerable neighbors.”
Established in 2021, Heroes Corner serves as a way for the Orioles to give back to the community and to show appreciation for front-line workers by donating tickets. This recognition honors the heroism of members in the Baltimore community from all walks of life, who have distinguished themselves by selflessly working or volunteering in fields that care for, serve, teach, protect, and improve the lives of others.
In addition to The Salvation Army assisting seniors during the early aughts of the with pandemic, as of 2021, the organization collaborates with Meals on Wheels, Maryland Food Bank, and the USDA with its’ Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP, Groceries On The Go), to package and deliver close to 3,000 grocery boxes, per month, for low-income seniors living in Baltimore City and in Baltimore County.
