High School Student from PORT Virtual Learning Program Orchestrates School-Wide Canned Food Drive to help The Salvation Army’s Food Pantry
Jayla Diamond, recent graduate of Port VLP (Virtual Leaning Program) orchestrated a school-wide canned food drive to benefit The Salvation Army of Central Maryland. This is the second year in a row that Jayla managed this canned food drive, and the most successful drive to date. Jayla donated over 350 food cans and boxes for The Salvation Army’s Baltimore City Pantry located in Federal Hill.
“Our students are the future, and with high schoolers like Jayla Diamond, the future is bright,” said Nina Christian, Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army of Central Maryland.
Last year, Jayla donated over 200 cans and food boxes to The Salvation Army. Her rationale for donating to the Salvation Army of Central Maryland, over any other non-profit is because 85 cents of every dollar goes straight into social services and because The Salvation Army is highly accountable for Doing the Most good for all people.
“We’re thankful for Jayla’s hard work and dedication. Because of her, many families combating hunger and who are in need of a week’s worth of food, will surely be thankful to her,” said Sherryn Gaworecki, Community Relations Director for The Salvation Army of Central Maryland.
