Each night in the United States, 17.4 million families go to bed hungry.
An additional 6.9 million families live on the verge of food insecurity. That means they don’t always know where their next meal is coming from.
In Maryland, alone, 640,180 people are facing hunger. This can be broken down to 1/9 people facing hunger and 1 in 7 children combating the same fight. (cited by Feeding America's website)
The Salvation Army of Central Maryland provides sit-down programs that ensure nutritious hot meals and valuable human interaction, to mobile meals delivering sustenance to those who cannot reach a food distribution center, to feeding programs. We help the most vulnerable members of society escape the daily burdens of food insecurity. As a community who cares.
OUR FEEDING PROGRAMS
FOOD PANTRIES
Several of our locations are equipped with an onsite food pantry, which is stocked with nonperishable food and toiletry items. Walk ins and scheduled clients are eligible to receive items upon verification of identification and proof of housing with cooking facilities. (Applicable every 30 days).
MOBILE FEEDING
Our FeedMore mobile feeding program provides hot, healthy meals as well as clothing, warm blankets, and toiletries, to homeless and impoverished men, women, and children, six nights a week.
PANTRY ON THE GO
During the warmer months, The Salvation partners with the local food bank to host food give aways or “Pantry-on-the-Go”, which is a large food distribution event hosted at various sites to provide immediate supplementary food assistance throughout the community. We currently host this food event in Glen Burnie and Howard County. (No ID/documents required)
COMPLIMENTARY CAFE’S
To expand dining options for the community, we operate two complimentary cafes in central Maryland. Brass Hat Cafe in Westminster serves free, hot meals every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 4:30 pm – 6:00pm. Temple Corps also hosts Cornbread Cafe, which provides free lunch every Thursday from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm in West Baltimore.
